🌟 RDM Club Meetings 1 and 2 - recap
We are pleased to announce that we have a new regular community event specifically for Research Data Managers and other data professionals who support users of eLabFTW!
The eLabFTW RDM club was created to enable RDMs from all over the world to share strategies for supporting users of eLabFTW at their institutions. This club will start off with monthly informal meetings, and may eventually include working groups and real life meet-ups (!). For now, the meetings are not recorded (to encourage discussion), but there will be a blog post with a recap of each meeting.
🌐 First RDM Club Meeting
In meeting 1, we discussed the potential utility of the RDM club, including sharing tools for onboarding and teaching eLabFTW, guiding Deltablot in the creation of new features and tools based on user requests/issues, and creating connections within the RDM community. We then chose our first topic of discussion. Many RDMs have indicated that there is a need for a publicly accessible template library for template sharing, and so this was proposed as a first project for the club. We discussed some of the characteristics that a public template library would need to have, such as a moderation and/or rating system for entries, a way to sort the templates by discipline using keywords or categories, and a system for creating a user profile. This information was then communicated to the development team at Deltablot.
🧪 Second RDM Club Meeting
In meeting 2, we heard from Nicolas Carpi (the founder and lead developer at Deltablot), who presented the pre-alpha version of the template sharing tool. The group discussed the new tool and posed several questions for consideration:
- What kind of license will be associated with the template sharing?
- How many categories do we plan to implement?
- How will we sort the categories and the tags?
- How to incentivize users to upload templates?
Next, we discussed strategies for sharing information about the activities of RDM club. We agreed that the facilitator would create blog posts after each meeting with a recap of the meeting. We also decided to create a monthly RDM club newsletter with links to the blog and information about the next meeting.
Finally, we decided to create a collaborative document that club members could use to submit items they would like to discuss to the agenda for the next meeting. The link will be sent out with the newsletter! To sign up to receive the RDM club newsletter, contact us at contact@deltablot.email.
