🌟 RDM Club Meeting 3
Thank you to everyone who attended the 3rd RDM club meeting, which took place on July 1. In this meeting, we launched the new template sharing platform, which is now up for testing over the summer by members of the RDM club. The platform is in a very early stage, but it enables users to log in with an ORCID ID, and to upload and download template files. We are planning to add more features in the autumn of 2025 according to user feedback. Nicolas Carpi explained the basics of the platform, and then the group discussed its design.
We considered the following questions about the template sharing platform:
- What types of categories should be used?
- The DFG Classification of Subject Areas Ontology – 2024-2028 was suggested
- Maybe users could create their own categories?
- How will authorship and licensing of the templates be handled?
- Maybe users can choose whether their uploaded template must be cited?
- We need feedback from institutions about what kind of licensing might be expected for templates
Then we discussed project management systems used in conjunction with eLabFTW
Some groups make a resource entry for a project and collect all resources, experiment links, and external links there
We discussed the use of action requests or custom hooks to control the sequence of actions, and considered ways to improve this workflow, such as having a drop down list of collaborators and customizable actions to choose from for the “request action” feature
We also discussed ways to improve the dashboard and to-do list to improve the potential for project management using these features
- For example, the to-do list steps could be organized by experiment on the dashboard
Finally, we considered the need for guidelines about what to do when a colleague leaves the lab.
The documentation will be updated soon with some strategies for transferring ownership and archiving entries!
The next meeting will be in September 2025! To sign up to receive the RDM club newsletter, contact us at contact@deltablot.email.
