RDM Club Meeting IV
🌟 RDM Club Meeting 4
Thank you to everyone who attended this RDM club meeting, which was held on Sept 30, 2025. In this meeting, we discussed the continued development of the ELN Community template sharing website.
Specifically, we considered the following:
Whether users should be able to delete templates. Attendees pointed out that it is important to make sure that the metadata is retained so that people know why a specific template got deleted.
The importance of establishing a PID for each template, and making sure that this is referenced in eLabFTW.
Ways of sorting the uploaded templates, such as by upload date and download count. An attendee asked how the template hub would handle templates made in older versions of an ELN - i.e., could a template be so old that it is no longer supported in new versions of eLabFTW?
We talked about how it would be useful to have a direct link in eLabFTW to the template Hub so that when a user is creating a new entry they can import a template from the hub directly into eLabFTW.
Then we discussed strategies for training users regarding research data management and eLabFTW, as follows:
Some members of the RDM Club teach courses on using eLabFTW, both beginner and advanced-level courses such as workshops about using the API
Others manage training environments for different teams
One attendee reported that they initially trained team admins, but then realized it was easier to train each team as a group. They focused on the philosophy of the application (FAIR data) and customized the training for each group. They then revisited the groups 1 month and 2 months later - when groups seemed ready, they exported the entries to the production instance.
